WHAT DO YOU NEED – Simple Solar or Hybrid Controller/Inverter?
Despite similar names, these are very different products performing different functions and with different price tags. A simple solar controller is connected to your solar panel array and its sole function is to charge your batteries. It may also have a 12 or 48v outlet, but that is all.
A hybrid inverter is also connected to your solar array and charges your batteries, but in addition it is connected to your mains supply, if available, and supplies 220v mains electricity to your home automatically choosing the source of that energy. If a genset is present, it will start it automatically, if the genset offers that option. It is the heart of a domestic solar system.
